Welcome to the Cho Lab!

Welcome to the Laboratory of Veterinary Biochemistry at Seoul National University!

Our laboratory investigates cancer in companion animals and humans through the lens of comparative medicine. Building on the Comparative-medicine Disease Research Center (CDRC), selected as a Science Research Center (SRC) by the Ministry of Science and ICT in 2021, we focus on naturally occurring human breast cancer and canine mammary tumors to uncover shared mechanisms of tumorigenesis and species-specific differences, and to translate these findings into new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.

We focus on several fundamental questions:

1. What molecular and immunological features are shared between cancers in humans and companion animals?

2. How do immune cells and cancer cells interact within the tumor microenvironment?

3. Why do some immune responses successfully control cancer, whereas others fail?

4. How can we optimize immune cell function to promote more effective anti-tumor responses?

To address these questions, our laboratory integrates a range of advanced research approaches, including comparative genomics, comparative epigenomics, the development of companion animal-derived organoid and assembloid models, and tumor microenvironment analysis.

Through comparative medicine, our lab seeks to uncover new insights and develop therapeutic approaches that improve health outcomes for both animals and humans.
